2016-2017 Nursery School year

In the Nursery year program  we let the seasons guide our curriculum.  Children explore the natural world through a daily & weekly rhythm filled with cooking, planting, painting, outdoor play, purposeful work and arts & crafts.  Through the process of doing and playing the children learn Spanish in context while engaged in meaningful and fun activity. 

 

Flow of the Day

The Daily Rhythm and  Weekly Rhythm is important to the developing child and integral to a language immersion environment.  Students will take comfort in the daily routine knowing what to expect at any given moment. As students move from one activity to the next, songs and poems make those transitions gentle.  Meanwhile, their Spanish language skills will grow naturally in a nurturing environment. 

Daily Rhythm

  •  9:30-10:20         Free Play/Activity
  • 10:20-10:30        Tidy Up/Toileting
  • 10:30-10:45        Circle Time-songs/fingerplays
  • 10:45-11:15        Snack
  • 11:15-12:15        Outdoor Time
  • 12:15-12:30        Story
  • 12:30-1:15          Lunch
  • 1:15-1:30            Good-bye Circle

 Weekly Rhythm

For our daily group activity, we follow a rhythm within the week.  This gives the children a sense of comfort and a sense of time.  For example, they look forward to kneading dough and making bread loaves on Tuesday...which they know they will eat for Wednesday Snack!  They smell the delicious bread baking as they enter the classroom every Wednesday morning.

  • Monday is Painting
  • Tuesday is Baking/Cooking Day
  • Wednesday is Craft Day.
  • Thursday is Nature Walk Day.
  • Friday is Cleaning and Tidying up Day.
